Cardi B and Offset’s Breakup Timeline
The stars, who share two kids, have been candid about the ups and downs of their relationship through the years
The musical pairing, who’ve been together since early 2017, secretly tied the knot the same year and welcomed two children — daughter Kulture Kiari, 5, and son Wave Set, 2 — during the course of their five-year marriage.
Still, with as much love and support as they have shown each other, the pair have had their fair share of ups and downs, too.
“I don’t really like talking about love much, but I feel like I have to do it, just because I want people to know a little bit,” Cardi told ELLE in 2020. “There’s always rumors about me and my husband, and I feel like people would rather start rumors because they want me to be heartbroken. They want me to be hurt.”
She continued: “I do know that my relationship has a lot of drama and everything. But there’s a lot of love, there’s a lot of passion, there’s a lot of trust, there’s a big friendship. It’s always us against the world.”
Here, everything to know about the stars’ latest split — and their relationship history.
Why Did Cardi B and Offset Break Up?
Though neither party has explicitly revealed the reason for the breakup this time around, Cardi, 31, posted some cryptic messages about outgrowing people earlier this month.
“You know when you just out grow relationships,” the “Bongos” rapper wrote on Dec. 4, hinting at possible relationship trouble on her Instagram Stories.
She added to the statement, “I’m tired of protecting peoples feelings…I GOTTA PUT MYSELF FIRST.”
Cardi B and the former Migos band member, also 31, had fans curious, given they had stopped following each other on social media.
Offset also posted to his Instagram Story in the wake of the unfollowing news. The “Stir Fry” rapper posted a Scarface clip featuring Al Pacino yelling, “Hey, f— you, man! Who put this thing together? Me! Who do I trust? Me!”
Have Cardi B and Offset Spoken Out About the Breakup?
Though representatives for the two rappers did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment, Cardi seemingly confirmed her single status during the weekend of Dec. 9.
The rapper got candid on Instagram Live as she admitted, “I’ve been single for a minute now,” according to a recording of the livestream shared on X.
She continued, “But I have been afraid… Not afraid, I just don’t know how to tell the world. But I feel like today has been, like, a sign.”
Cardi said she wants to start the new year “fresh” and “open,” as she admitted, “I’m curious for a new life, for a new beginning. And yeah… I’m excited.
Cardi also confirmed that she had been dropping hints about the split to her followers by unfollowing Offset and posting cryptic messages on her story.
“I don’t know if you guys have been getting clues from me, from my Lives, or from my Stories, when I put some certain music, or find my unfollowings,” the rapper said.
When Was the Last Time Cardi B and Offset Broke Up?
Cardi B and Offset were last seen together turning up and showing some PDA during Paris Fashion Week in July.
Prior to that, they had gotten into another public spat after Offset accused Cardi of cheating.
“My wife f—ed a N—- on me gang yall n—- know how I come,” Offset wrote in a now-deleted Instagram Story.
Cardi responded by posting a Twitter Space conversation in which she sang the first verse of Keyshia Cole’s “I Should Have Cheated.” She then told listeners, “That motherf—er spiraling and thinking s—.”
“Please boy, stop acting stupid. Stop acting stupid,” she addressed Offset directly. “Going crazy over a f—ing Space. Don’t play with me. What the f—. Stop playing. That’s all I’m gonna motherf—ing say.”
She continued, “Come on, y’all. I’m f—ing Cardi B n—. I think sometimes motherf—ers forget I’m Cardi B. If I was giving this p—- to anybody, it would be out. I’m not just anybody.”
“Can’t f— no regular degular shmegular ’cause they gonna tell the world,” explained Cardi. “And I can’t f— nobody in the industry ’cause they gonna tell too.”
Offset would later clarify that the cheating accusations were just the result of a petty argument.
“That’s my wife. I love her to death,” he told Angela Yee. “If you got a New York woman, you know she’s a pitbull at the mouth. She get crazy at the mouth a little bit, and I was really lit that night. We [were] going back and forth and I was like, ‘Watch this.'”
The pair managed to make it to their fifth anniversary in September 2023. However, the stars both attended the TikTok In the Mix music festival on Dec. 10, in Mesa, Arizona — but were not photographed together.
